About
Francis Kurkdjian made his name in 1995, at twenty-six, with Le Male for Jean Paul Gaultier, and went on to compose for many major brands. In 2009 he and Marc Chaya, a former Ernst and Young partner, opened their own house near the Place Vendôme in Paris, with Aqua Universalis among its first releases. Baccarat Rouge 540 began as a commission for the crystal maker Baccarat's 250th anniversary and later became the house's defining product. LVMH bought the business in 2017, and Kurkdjian also became perfume creative director at Dior in 2021.
