About
Armand Petitjean founded Lancôme in France in 1935 with Guillaume d'Ornano, presenting five perfumes at that year's Brussels World's Fair before moving into skincare and make-up. The name, chosen by Elisabeth d'Ornano, comes from a château in central France, and the rose became the house emblem. L'Oréal bought the company in 1964, and Lancôme is now one of its largest luxury brands. Its fragrance history includes Trésor in 1990, La Vie Est Belle in 2012 and Idôle in 2019, alongside the Maison Lancôme collection of higher-priced scents.
