About
Thierry Hermès opened a harness workshop in Paris in 1837, and his descendants still control the company through a family holding. Its first fragrance, Eau d'Hermès, was composed by Edmond Roudnitska around 1950. The house's modern perfume style was shaped by Jean-Claude Ellena, its exclusive perfumer from 2004 to 2016, whose airy, transparent compositions included the Hermessence line and Terre d'Hermès. Christine Nagel joined in 2014 and became director of olfactive creation, adding scents such as Twilly d'Hermès and H24. Hermès keeps fragrance development and production in its own hands.
