About

Ben Gorham started Byredo in Stockholm in 2006, taking the name from a contraction of "by redolence". The first release, Green, set a pattern of short ingredient lists and personal, memory-based themes that the house has kept since. Byredo later widened into candles, leather goods and jewellery, and worked with artists and designers on limited projects. Manzanita Capital took a majority stake in 2013, and the Spanish group Puig bought control in 2022. Gorham stepped away in 2025 as part of the planned transition after that sale.
