About
Amouage was founded in Muscat in 1983 by Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi at the request of Sultan Qaboos, as a way to give Oman a perfume house of its own. It is run by Oman Perfumery LLC, part of the SABCO Group. The women's caps echo the dome of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and the men's caps the handle of the khanjar dagger. Under creative director Christopher Chong, who left in 2019, the house became a reference point for ambitious niche perfumery. Renaud Salmon became creative director in 2025, and production remains at a factory in Muscat that opened in 2012.
