About
Ajmal traces its start to Haji Ajmal Ali, born into a family of rice farmers in Assam, India, who turned to the oud trade and established the business in 1951. Accounts differ on whether it began in Assam or in Mumbai, where the company says he opened his first shop in Crawford Market. In 1976 his son Fakhruddin opened an outlet in Dubai, which became the company's centre. The family's second and third generations now run the house and its Dubai factory. Its range spans attars, oud oils and modern sprays sold across dozens of countries, and it is a traditional house rather than an inspired-by specialist.
